Will the 2027 election be decided on LinkedIn? Is LinkedIn the perfect platform for normalizing ideas, persuasion, and conviction? Reputation Age and Visibrain are launching the Observatory of Politics on LinkedIn to provide an overview of the most-followed political figures and to analyze what has not yet been decoded: the use of LinkedIn by a panel of 50 political figures (defined by the French Institute of Public Opinion IFOP) and its role in shaping public opinion. With 26 million LinkedIn profiles in France (out of an active population of 30 million), these internet users likely represent a significant sample. We have studied it.

On LinkedIn, one’s professional reputation is at stake, and one’s singularity is cultivated in the pursuit of credibility. It is important to stand out, whether one expresses expertise or interacts with political content, but expressing oneself impulsively on a poorly understood or sensitive topic can be a real risk that can impact the individual’s reputation, or even that of their company.

Because there is an expertise bonus on LinkedIn, experts wield considerable power and can shift the Overton window. Unlike X, Instagram, Meta, and TikTok, users have the time to explain ideas and to represent them visually in high-quality images, and precise and didactic graphics. This way, they can normalize ideas that were once considered too extreme and change ideological positions.
